Finding the right metrics

Each metric value is defined by its metric type, area and time period. The metric type gives the nature of the metrics, its units, source and other information. Each metric type has an identification number. 

 

When you know the metric type identifier number, you can just key it into selection boxes and links. When you don’t know it, you can use one of these methods to find the right metric types for you:

  1. Key words from the metric type name into a selector such as the “Metric type(s)” selector in the Data tool. The most relevant matching metric types will be shown for you to select from,
  2. Use the Explorer to find the metric types belonging to your chosen function of local government. Remember to pick the area type for which you want metrics because different metric types might apply to different areas such as local authorities, wards, Output Areas,
  3. Use the Search page to search for metric type matching your given text or advanced search criteria,
  4. From the Downloads page for the Metric types list in our Standards pages, download a CSV spreadsheet of metric types. You can download a full list or limit the list to metric types for which there are values for a particular geography or featured in a particular LGA tool. Once downloaded, you can load the spreadsheet into your preferred spreadsheet tool for further sorting, filtering and searching.
